François Bret: The Jay, 1963 (Black felt-tip pen) - Lot 30
François Bret: The Jay, 1963 (Black felt-tip pen) Black felt-tip pen Signed and inscribed by hand: “To Yves Guérin, with best regards” Dimensions: Sheet: 36 × 27 cm (14.17 × 10.63 in.) — Image: TBD Condition: good condition, unframed Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992 (single-owner provenance; the dedications place the collector in the casino circles of the Riviera and Dinard). Description: A jay rendered in black felt-tip pen with a lively, linear stroke—a spontaneous study that emphasizes line over color, characteristic of Bret. A French painter and central figure in the cultural life of the French Riviera, Bret was a professor at the School of Decorative Arts in Nice (1950) and later director of the School of Fine Arts in Marseille (1961). Hand-drawn and signed in the collector’s guestbook.
