Giuseppe Cesetti: Racehorses, July 2, 1966 (Watercolor) - Lot 47
Giuseppe Cesetti: Racehorses, July 2, 1966 (Watercolor) Watercolor Hand-signed and dated: “July 2, 1966” Dimensions: Paper: 36 × 27 cm (14.17 × 10.63 in.) Condition: good condition, unframed Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992. The dedication dated July 2, 1966, coincides precisely with the relocation of Cesetti’s exhibition “Nove pittori italiani a Parigi” to the Palais de la Méditerranée in Nice (July 1966) — directly documenting the artist’s presence in Yves Guérin’s casino circle. Description: Racehorses—an iconic subject of Giuseppe Cesetti, a master of the Italian Novecento movement born in Tuscania, renowned for his Maremma horses, bulls, and Etruscan landscapes. A professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and a regular participant in the Quadriennale and the Biennale, Cesetti drew inspiration from his French period in the mid-1960s, spending time in the Camargue and at the racetracks. A particularly successful watercolor, hand-painted and signed in the collector’s guestbook at the very time of his exhibition in Nice.
