Watercolor
Signed and inscribed by hand: “To Yves, art lover”
Dimensions:
Sheet: 36 × 27 cm (14.17 × 10.63 in.) — Image: TBD
Condition: good condition, unframed
Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992 (single-owner provenance; the dedications place the collector in the casino circles of the Riviera and Dinard).
Description: A circus orchestra—an iconic subject of Nathalie Chabrier, France’s first female painter of circus life, closely associated with the Cirque Médrano and later honored on a stamp issued by the Monte Carlo Circus Festival. A painter, lithographer, and illustrator trained in Paris (under Faulkner, Peyré, and Trenet) and the wife of painter Roger Forissier (also featured in this book), she received the Palais de la Méditerranée Prize in Nice and held a solo exhibition there on the circus in 1962—linking her directly to Yves Guérin’s casino scene one year before this book signing.
