Geneviève Marie Gallibert: Paris—the Seine and Notre-Dame, 1 - Lot 111
Geneviève Marie Gallibert: Paris—the Seine and Notre-Dame, 1971 (Pen, ink, and watercolor) Pen, ink, and watercolor Inscribed, signed, and dated by hand in the lower right corner: “ For Yves Guérin, with warm regards, G. Gallibert, December 23, 1971” Dimensions: Sheet: 36 × 27 cm (14.17 × 10.63 in.) — Image: upper two-thirds of the sheet Condition: good condition, unframed Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992 (single-owner provenance). As a painter of the Riviera, Gallibert was a natural fit within the Nice art collecting community. Description: A delicate view of Paris in pen and watercolor—the green Seine in the foreground, a stone bridge, and the colorful houses of the Île de la Cité (blue roofs, pink and yellow facades), with the spire of the Sainte-Chapelle and the twin towers of Notre-Dame rising behind, a branch with mauve foliage framing the right side. Geneviève Marie Gallibert was a French painter, watercolorist, and aviator, one of the first Official Air Painters (1935); renowned for her luminous watercolors of Provence, the Côte d’Azur, and her travels, often executed in pen and wash in a style compared to that of Yves Brayer. Signed, dated, and inscribed by hand.
