Description: An untitled composition in monochrome black watercolor, painted directly onto the collector’s guestbook and hand-signed. Born in Menton in 1930, Émile Marzé began exhibiting on the French Riviera in the early 1950s and participated in 1952 in the Salon de la Jeune Peinture Méditerranéenne organized by the UMAM (Mediterranean Union for Modern Art) at the Musée des Ponchettes in Nice. A winner of the Paris Biennale (1961) and a key organizer of the Menton International Art Biennales, he shifted from Mediterranean still lifes and landscapes to a more abstract style; his work is featured in several museums.
