Condition: Condition varies from sheet to sheet; generally good. The paper and margins show defects—foxing spots, yellowing/browning of the mat, marginal tears, missing corners, and residue from old adhesive in the corners (notably Guyon, Granès, Laurens, Huard, Ulmann, and Wély along the top edge); a few sheets are in very good condition (Delâtre, Muenier, Malteste). The lithographed subjects (the images themselves), however, are generally clean and fresh: these prints are ready to be framed; a mat will conceal the worn margins and make them fully presentable.
Description: A set of fifteen authentic plates from the famous Parisian collection *L'Estampe Moderne*, published monthly between 1897 and 1899 by Masson & Piazza and printed by Imprimerie Champenois. The series reproduced one hundred original lithographs by the leading French and foreign artists of the time, each commissioned specifically for the publication. This set covers the entire range of the series—Belle Époque elegance (Ibels, Robbe, Guyon, Breslau), Symbolist reverie (P.-A. Laurens, Granès, Muenier), Breton and coastal life (Lucien Simon, Wély, Borgex, Ulmann, Léandre), and Parisian genre scenes (Huard, Malteste).
