Antoniucci Volti: Two Reclining Nudes, 1965 (Pencil) - Lot 234
Antoniucci Volti: Two Reclining Nudes, 1965 (Pencil) Pencil Signed lower right: “Volti” Dimensions: Paper: 36 × 27 cm (14.17 × 10.63 in.) — Image: nearly full sheet Condition: good condition, unframed Provenance: Yves Guérin’s “Livre d’Or,” compiled between 1963 and 1992 (provenance from a single collection). Volti was a native of the French Riviera — he grew up in Villefranche-sur-Mer, studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Nice, and is buried in Villefranche, where the Volti Foundation-Museum is located today — which places him squarely within the Côte d’Azur art-collecting community. Description: A drawing characterized by a unique, fluid, and economical line, depicting two reclining female nudes in the refined and sensual style of Volti’s daily studies. Antoniucci Volti was a French sculptor, draftsman, and lithographer of Italian origin, following in the tradition of Aristide Maillol, who devoted his entire career to the female nude; Winner of the Second Grand Prix de Rome (1936), his works are featured at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, the Musée Matisse in Le Cateau-Cambrésis, and the Musée Volti in Villefranche-sur-Mer. He drew from live models every day. Hand-signed.
