Antoniucci Volti: Bust of a Nude Woman, c. 1980 (Pen and black ink) Pen and black ink Signed lower right: “Volti” Dimensions: Sheet: 36 × 27 cm (14.17 × 10.63 in.) — Image: nearly full sheet Condition: good condition, unframed Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992 (single-owner provenance). The second of two Volti sheets in the album (see no. 25). Volti grew up in Villefranche-sur-Mer and is buried there, where the Volti Foundation-Museum is located—which places him within the Côte d’Azur collector’s circle. Description: A female nude seen from the waist up, the body outlined with a clean, fluid contour line, the face rendered in tight hatching that plunges one side into shadow—the sensual economy of line characteristic of Volti’s daily studies from life. Antoniucci Volti was a French sculptor, draftsman, and lithographer of Italian origin, following in the tradition of Aristide Maillol, who devoted his career to the female nude; Winner of the Second Grand Prix de Rome (1936), his works are featured in the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris and the Musée Volti in Villefranche-sur-Mer. Hand-signed.
