A crowded interior scene, featuring figures in 18th-century costumes, rendered in the free and energetic pencil style characteristic of Moretti’s graphic work. A young woman sits up in bed in the center, her hand to her cheek, while three men in wigs and suits occupy the foreground and the right side—one seated in profile on the left, one leaning forward, and one reclining under a canopy. The room is furnished with a fireplace, framed paintings, a chandelier, and a four-poster bed, sketched roughly with quick parallel hatching that leaves large areas of the paper unmarked. The scene belongs to the anecdotal and slightly comical vein of period genre subjects that Moretti developed alongside his work as an illustrator. As an artist’s first proof, this print is not part of the numbered edition.
