BEN (Ben Vautier) (French, born in Italy, 1935–2024) - Lot 16
BEN (Ben Vautier) (French, born in Italy, 1935–2024)
“Oh Ben, you’re silly—you talk too much about art” (Addi said that to me one day), excerpt from the portfolio “Homage to Arthur Köpcke,” 1979. Silkscreen print with original photograph mounted on cardboard.
Signed and numbered 93/100 by the artist (edition of 100 copies + XXX artist’s proofs).
Dimensions:
Sheet: 40 × 39.7 cm (15.8 × 15.6 in.)
Condition: Very good condition, unframed.
Print taken from the portfolio *Hommage à Arthur Köpcke*, published in 1979 by Den Danske Radeerforening af 1853, Copenhagen, in memory of Fluxus pioneer Arthur “Addi” Köpcke (1928–1977); copies are held at the Harvard Art Museums, the mumok in Vienna, and the Broad in Los Angeles. Ben, a master of writing from Nice and a pillar of the European Fluxus movement, transforms here a jab once directed at him by Köpcke into a self-deprecating memorial in his characteristic style—accompanied by an original photograph mounted onto the backing.
