Plate 64 from *The Masters of the Poster*, the legendary subscription publication that appeared monthly in Paris from December 1895 to November 1900 under the artistic direction of Jules Chéret and printed by Imprimerie Chaix, reproducing the finest posters of the Belle Époque in collector’s format. Riquer, a leading figure of Catalan Modernism in the graphic arts, designed this poster for the third Exhibition of Fine Arts and Artistic Industries organized by the city of Barcelona in 1896: two allegorical figures representing Industry and Art—one holding a palette and the other the Venus de Milo—along with the coat of arms of Barcelona and a bat, the city’s heraldic emblem, set against a background of laurel leaves.
