Plate 36 from *The Masters of the Poster*, the legendary subscription publication that appeared monthly in Paris from December 1895 to November 1900 under the artistic direction of Jules Chéret and printed by Imprimerie Chaix, reproducing the finest posters of the Belle Époque in collector’s format. Dow, an American painter and printmaker whose Japanese-inspired approach to composition influenced Georgia O’Keeffe and an entire generation of American artists, designed this poster for the Boston-based art magazine *Modern Art*, published by L. Prang & Co.: a landscape of the Ipswich marshes rendered in the style of a Japanese print, one of the very few American posters included in the series.
