Yves Brayer (1907–1990) - Lot 39
Yves Brayer (1907–1990) Horses in the Camargue, 1963 Watercolor Signed and inscribed by hand: “To Yves Guérin, with warm regards” Dimensions: Sheet 29.7 × 21 cm (11 ⅝ × 8 ¼ in.) — Image: to be specified Note: A catalog raisonné exists (Lydia Harambourg, Bibliothèque des arts, 2001); given the active market for Brayer’s work and the circulation of copies, a certificate of authenticity from the artist’s studio is recommended prior to any sale. Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992 (single-owner provenance; the dedications place the collector in the casino circles of the Riviera and Dinard). Description: Camargue horses—the most iconic subject of Yves Brayer, a master of the École de Paris and a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts (1957). A lifelong traveler (Spain, Morocco, Italy) who settled in Provence and the Camargue, Brayer is famous for his Mediterranean light and his passion for horses; the Yves Brayer Museum was founded in Les Baux-de-Provence in 1991. Painted in watercolor and hand-signed in the collector’s guestbook.
