Howard Greenberg Library The Life and Work of Sid Grossman (2016) This retrospective, produced with the Howard Greenberg collection, accompanies a monographic exhibition at Rencontres d'Arles 2016. In it, we rediscover New Yorker Sid Grossman, co-founder of the Photo League in 1936, who taught Lisette Model, Arthur Leipzig and Louis Stettner, among others. Between documentary and street photography, he took a particular interest in the poor neighborhoods of Harlem and Chelsea, denouncing the insalubrity of the buildings. Suspected of being a communist, he was finally blacklisted by the FBI in 1947. Radical in its time, his work, now revived, illustrates the expressionist energy of the "New York School" of the 1950s. James Karales (2014) A monograph celebrating the career of photojournalist James Karales. It includes his famous images related to the Civil Rights movement in America, as well as lesser-known images of the Rendville mining community, the Vietnam War, the Oregon timber industry and the Lower East Side.
