Roland DUBUC (1924-1998) - Lot 13
Roland DUBUC (1924-1998) The Moulin de Montmartre in winter. Color etching signed and marked Hors Commerce (HC) in pencil under the image. Image: 32.5 x 40 cm; sheet: 44.5 x 44.7 cm Dubuc met Le Trividic and Fréchon in Rouen, and moved to Le Havre in the mid-1940s, before trying his luck in Paris in 1950. There, he struggled to make a living from his art, working at a number of odd jobs. He even went so far as to sell a Wallace fountain to American tourists, who went there the next day armed with pickaxes and came back empty-handed. His reputation grew. He showed works at the Grand Palais in the exhibition "Les Grands et les Jeunes d'Aujourd'hui". The Petit Palais bought paintings from him. The last Montmartre painter of the Genin, Utrillo and Gen-Paul era, Dubuc painted all his life with the same expressionist verve. He returned to settle in Normandy in his twilight years.
