Roger Limouse: Still Life with a Bouquet, August 1968 (signe - Lot 135
Roger Limouse: Still Life with a Bouquet, August 1968 (signed) Oil pastels Dedicated and signed by hand at the bottom edge: “To Yves Guérin,” signed “R. Limouse”; dated in the lower left corner “August 68” Dimensions: Paper: 36 × 27 cm (14.17 × 10.63 in.) Condition: good condition, unframed Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992 (from a single collection). Description: A fauvist explosion of color—a lush, multicolored bouquet (pink, yellow, orange, blue, green)—rising above a green table adorned with a white vase and a fruit bowl, flanked by yellow rattan armchairs, all rendered in fragmented, vibrant brushstrokes. Roger Limouse was a French painter, a student of Paul Albert Laurens at the Académie Julian and a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1948–64); one of the last representatives of Fauvism and the eldest of the “Painters of Poetic Reality,” he was nicknamed “the last roaring Fauve” and devoted his art to color and Baudelaire’s *Les Fleurs du Mal*. He divided his time between Paris and Menton, on the French Riviera, and his Fauvist bouquets and still lifes are characteristic of his work. His work is featured at the Centre Pompidou. Signed and inscribed by hand.
