Ana Mendieta - Time and history cover me / At the beginnings / Poligrafa monograph - 1999-2013 Ediciones Poligrafa 1999 hardcover with dust jacket Time and history cover me (2018) Born into a prominent Havana family, but exiled to the United States as a teenager, Ana Mendieta (1948-1985) is one of the most innovative and prolific artists of the post-war period. During her all-too-short career, she produced a unique body of work that includes drawings, installations, performances, photographs and sculptures. Less well known is the fact that she also wrote some remarkable films. The only book devoted to this aspect of her practice, Le temps et l'histoire me recouvrent contains the first complete filmography ever compiled, the fruit of three years' research. Its iconography covers all one hundred and four of the artist's films, made between 1971 and 1981. It includes sequences of images from the twenty films digitally restored for the Jeu de Paume exhibition, as well as related photographs. With original texts by Laura Wertheim Joseph, Lynn Lukkas, Raquel Cecilia Mendieta, Howard Oransky, John Perreault, Michael Rush and Rachel Weiss, this catalog restores the centrality of Ana Mendieta's films to her oeuvre and to the disciplinary upheavals that characterized the visual arts in the 1970s, with the gradual adoption of new media by artists. At the Beginning (2013) The monograph devoted to Cuban-born American artist Ana Mendieta at MO.CO. Panacée in 2023 brings together some one hundred works spanning more than fifteen years of production (1968-1985). In particular, the exhibition explores the way in which the artist never ceased to reinvent herself, developing an original sculptural language, often ephemeral, sometimes performative, nourished by her research into original myths and rock art. She is particularly interested in revealing her relationship with the visible and the invisible, the permanent and the impermanent, her way of making the unspeakable explicable through the imprint of the body and its inscription in nature. The exhibition is not intended as a retrospective, but rather as a celebration of the relevance of a contemporary, political and vibrant body of work. Accompanying the exhibition, this richly illustrated publication, introduced by Numa Hambursin and Álvaro Rodríguez Fominaya, includes previously unpublished texts by Géraldine Gourbe, Carla Guardiola Bravo and Rahmouna Boutayeb, as well as an interview between Vincent Honoré and Raquel Cecilia Mendieta.
